Creating a parking enforcement program is an extremely costly process. There would be a requirement to purchase, install and maintain hundreds of 'No Parking' signs; hire and train parking enforcement officers; and then defend the resulting parking citations in a court of law. Very few jurisdictions in our region have this type of program. The City of Murrieta believes that educating our residents about the street sweeping program, publicizing the sweeping schedule, and asking that residents not park on the street on sweeping days is a more effective and community friendly way to proceed.
The City's contractor will not sweep streets on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If the scheduled day for your street falls on one of these holidays, then your street will be swept on the next regularly scheduled day for your street.
Your street may be part of a gated community (i.e.- Greer Ranch) or have streets that are designated as private (i.e.- The Knolls) and are not maintained by the City. Also, if your housing development is relatively new, the streets may not have yet been turned over to the City for maintenance. Parcels benefiting from sweeping service are charged a small fee on property tax rolls.
