CITY OF MURRIETA
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING TO ESTABLISH SOLID WASTE COLLECTION SERVICE RATES
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Murrieta will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 6:00 PM or a time soon thereafter, in the City Council Chambers, located at 1 Town Square, Murrieta, CA 92562 to propose to establish new solid waste collection service rates, effective April 1, 2023. In compliance with Proposition 218, Article XIID, of the California State Constitution, and the Proposition 218 Omnibus Implementation Act. The City hereby notifies all affected property owners and occupants of the proposed rates for the City’s residential and commercial solid waste services. All interested persons are invited to participate in the Public Hearing.
If the City Council adopts the rates at the Public Hearing on March 7, 2023, the rates will be effective, and new residential organics recycling services will take effect on April 1, 2023. The new solid waste collection service rates are necessary to cover the cost of complying with new legal mandates and services imposed by the State of California for required organics recycling and related programs aimed at reducing solid waste and organic materials in California’s landfills. For questions about the Public Hearing process or the proposed rates, please call (951) 837-4302 or visit www.murrietaca.gov/rates, where the full rate sheet can be found. The full rate sheet can also be reviewed at City Hall.
At the Public Hearing, the City Council will hear and consider all testimony concerning the new proposed solid waste collection service rates. If you oppose the proposed rates, your protest must be submitted in writing to be considered. Written protests must be submitted to the City Clerk’s office by 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Written protests may also be delivered during the Public Hearing at the Murrieta City Council Chambers, located at 1 Town Square, Murrieta.
All written protests must contain a statement indicating your opposition to the proposed rates, the Assessor Parcel Number (APN), the service address, and the signature of the property owner(s). Please send all protests to:
City Clerk, City of Murrieta
1 Town Square
Murrieta, CA 92562
If written protests are submitted by a majority of affected property owners, the proposed solid waste collection service rates may not be implemented. Owners of multiple properties must file a separate written protest for each property. Only one written protest per parcel will be accepted. Protests sent by email or fax will not be accepted, nor protests received after the Public Hearing is closed. Public comments at the Hearing will not qualify as a formal protest unless accompanied by a written protest.
