[ARCHIVED] Be Storm Ready - Prepare Now

2023 Sandbags

It's rainy season and that means the best time to prepare for flooding is before the water drops start fall.

Prepare your sandbags by visiting Fire Station 1 (41825 Juniper Street, Murrieta, CA 92562) and 2 (40060 California Oaks Road, Murrieta, CA 92562).

Here are a few reminders on what to do when thunderstorms are occurring:

  • Move immediately to the nearest building or vehicle
  • Unplug appliances to protect them from power surges
  • Avoid working or standing under trees and electrical poles
  • Avoid using your mobile phone unless absolutely necessary
  • Stay away from windows and metals doors

During storms, our City crews are busy making sure residents can function as smoothly as possible:

  • Public Works crews clear debris off drain inlets throughout Murrieta
  • Staff work to house homeless individuals and get them out of creeks and storm drains and keep them safe
  • Kalmia Street is closed between 2nd Avenue and Hayes Avenue
  • Crews clear the Cal Oaks retention basin low flow pipe, which is typically clogged by the local beavers
  • Sand was delivered to Fire Stations 1 and 2 for sandbags and will be monitored for additional delivery of sand
  • Flooded signs have been deployed throughout the city for areas that are known for flooding
  • V-ditches are being monitored in the Tenaja Fire burn scar area, off Oak Bluff Lane, Calle Cipres and Mountainside Court
