Coyotes have been sighted at California Oaks Sports Park, one of the most popular parks in Murrieta. While coyote sightings in Murrieta are not uncommon, it is unusual that they appear while so many people are gathered in the park. Please read the following reminders so you know what to do in case of a coyote sighting.
Remember the following:
❌Feeding coyotes or other wild animals is prohibited
❌Always keep your dog on a leash no longer than 6 feet
❌Do not allow dogs to go into brush or bushes
❌Use extra caution from dusk through dawn
❌If a coyote approaches you, do not run or turn your back
❌Face the coyote and back away slowly
❌Make loud noises and throw rocks in its direction
❌ If a coyote poses an imminent threat to life, call 9-1-1.
Feeding wild animals and leaving food behind at parks encourages animals to frequent these locations, making it unsafe for residents and the animals. Stay aware and stay safe.
