[ARCHIVED] Prepare Now to Keep Your Pets Safe During the Fourth of July Holiday

Fireworks and Pets

Want to help your pets get through the Fourth of July holiday safe and sound? Help reduce your dog's stress by preparing ahead of time.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐰: 🎆Make sure your dog's microchip information and tags are up-to-date. Animal Friends of the Valleys does microchipping locally.

🎆 Start planning a safe space for your dog. Aim for an area in your house away from doors and windows where you can add your pup's favorite bed, blankets, and toys.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝: 🎆Provide lots of opportunities for exercise during the day. Take your dog on a long walk, hike, swim, playdate, or play catch to get their energy out before the evening.
🎆If possible, stay home during the firework shows. 🎆Introduce your pet to the comfy space you prepared. 🎆Muffle the loud noise with music, television, or a sound machine. 🎆Utilize enrichment activities like puzzles and chews to keep their mind occupied.

And please remember, all fireworks are illegal in Riverside County. Murrieta Police Department and Murrieta Fire & Rescue will have extra education and enforcement going on throughout the city this weekend.

Celebrate safely, Murrieta.
