[ARCHIVED] Update from the City of Murrieta Regarding Cyber Incident

UPDATE FROM THE CITY OF MURRIETA

On Monday, May 30, the City of Murrieta’s Information Technology Division discovered a cyber incident that impacted our City servers. Upon learning of the issue, we took immediate steps to protect our environment to prevent any further harm.

Forensic professionals specializing in cyber security were immediately engaged and we have commenced a thorough analysis and investigation in consultation with outside technical professionals. That investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing.

It is important to note that all emergency services, both police and fire, are intact and have remained intact. This is City’s highest priority. The City’s 911 system continues to be operational. The City of Murrieta’s communications center, serving the communities of both Murrieta and Menifee, has remained functional this entire time and has been dispatching calls without any gaps in service.

The City team established two primary goals during this threat:

1.    To continue to provide emergency services to the public

2.    To continue business operations and serving the community

The investigation is ongoing and if it is determined that certain information was affected, we will notify impacted individuals.

We appreciate our residents', our businesses', and our partners' understanding as we work through this issue. This situation is being analyzed and investigated and information may change, but the City will share relevant developments as the investigation continues, as it is a priority to keep our residents and businesses informed and safe.
