FIRST NOTICE: CALL FOR CANDIDATES - Regional Council District #5 

Attention: All City Clerks of the Cities of Menifee, Murrieta and Temecula

   PLEASE POST AND DISTRIBUTE THIS NOTICE TO YOUR MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS

To:     The Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers of the City of Menifee The Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers of the City of Murrieta The Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers of the City of Temecula

 

RE:      SCAG First Notice: CALL FOR CANDIDATES – RC District 5

 

This is to notify all Mayors and Councilmembers of SCAG’s Regional Council (RC)

District  5  that  the  current  two-year  term  of  office  for  the  RC  District  5

Representative, The Honorable Zak Schwank, City of Temecula ends at the adjournment of the May 6, 2021 SCAG General Assembly. A Regional Council district election must be held per SCAG bylaws.

 

Call for Candidates: Mayors and Councilmembers from SCAG member cities within the RC District 5 (Menifee, Murrieta, and Temecula) are eligible candidates. Interested candidates must submit their interest in writing (name, title, and city) no later than 5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021 to Arnold San Miguel Regional Affairs Officer at [email protected].

 

Deadline to Declare Candidacy:         5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021.

RC District #5 Election if needed:       6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 25, 2021

Term of Office (2-years):                     May 6, 2021 to May 4, 2023

 

District Election: After the deadline to declare candidacy, if there are two or more candidates a Second Notice of Election will be sent identifying all of the candidates, confirming the District Election date, time, location (virtual) 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 25, 2021 and will include a summary of RC District Election guidelines.

 

As a Regional Council representative, the member:

    Also serves on one of SCAG’s policy committees: Community, Economic and Human Development Committee (CEHD); Energy and Environment Committee (EEC); or Transportation Committee.

 •     May be appointed by the SCAG President to other SCAG committees.

 •     Receive a $120 stipend for attending both RC and PC meetings (1st Thursdays), other SCAG meetings or SCAG-sponsored events. 

     Receive  public  transit  or  mileage  reimbursement  (based  on  travel distance between member’s seat of government and SCAG’s meeting/event location).

     Receive parking validation at SCAG’s Los Angeles office.

     Receive lodging reimbursement for travel requirement of 75 miles or more one-way.

 

The Regional Council meets on the first Thursday of each month at SCAG’s downtown Los Angeles Office, however, meetings will be held in a virtual environment until Covid restrictions allow for in person meetings at the downtown Los Angeles Office. Please find attached the schedule of Regional Council meetings.
