Animal Care Services

Animal control and shelter services in the City of Murrieta are provided through a partnership with Animal Friends of the Valley (AFV). Under this agreement, AFV provides the City with the following services:

  • Field Services
    Impounding stray animals, picking-up injured wildlife, cruelty investigations, issuance of citations, nuisance complaints, etc.
  • Shelter Services
    Receiving animals from the public, providing low cost vaccination clinics, pet licensing and adoptions, etc.

Shelter Hours:

Open at 8:00 AM Monday through Saturday for LICENSING ONLY
Monday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Friday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Sunday: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM (Third Sunday Only)

Animal Licensing & Vaccinations: 


It is a state law and city ordinance that all dogs 4 months of age and older be vaccinated against rabies and licensed in the city in which the animal lives (within 30 days). Licensing can be done in person at the shelter, online or via mail.
