Traffic Safety Grants & Campaigns

The Murrieta Police Department Traffic Bureau participates in the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) Campaigns to enhance traffic safety in the City of Murrieta. This is accomplished through grants that Murrieta PD applies for every January. If successful in the grant application process, the Police Department receives funding that can be utilized the following federal fiscal year beginning in October and running through the following September 30.

Funding

OTS provides funding for officers to conduct overtime saturations targeting specific problems such as Driving Under the Influence (DUI), unsafe motorcycle operations, vehicle street racing, speeding, red light running, and drivers operating on suspended driver's licenses. OTS also provides funding for equipment required by the Murrieta Police Department based on demonstrated need. Such items like our DUI Trailer, breathalyzers, and portable lighting units for DUI Checkpoints are equipment Murrieta has received from these OTS Grants.
