The City of Murrieta's Aquatics program offers a variety of Swim Lesson classes through the Red Cross Water Safety Program. All classes are held at the California Oaks Sports Park Pool between May and September and are taught by Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors.
Instructors are trained to make learning fun in a safe environment while providing a balanced program that teaches swimming skills and water safety to everyone from infancy to adulthood. Swim lesson levels and descriptions are generic and actual class instruction may not cover all skills listed in the description due to the swimmer's ability.
Instructors follow a plan that details the skills to be introduced at each level along with performance expectations. Progress of participants is continuously monitored and evaluated and skills are checked off as they are achieved.
At the end of the session, achievement cards are presented to children who have not completed all skills. The cards indicate which skills have been achieved and which skills need more work.
