Electronic Waste & Wireless Technology

Electronic Waste (E-waste)

Don't throw away that old computer or monitor, it has hazardous components that are not allowed in the landfill. E-waste includes products made with Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs), which contain high levels of lead and are no longer accepted at the landfill. Other products containing hazardous electronic materials may include:

  • Cell phones
  • Computer CPUs and all types of monitors
  • DVDs
  • Hi-fi stereo equipment
  • Televisions
  • VCRs

Because these items cannot be disposed of at the landfill, the hauler must make separate arrangements for collection. Once the item is collected it is shipped to a deconstruction site where it is stripped of all contaminants and then sent to the landfill. The contaminants are sent to a hazardous waste processing plant to be properly disposed of. If you have e-waste to be disposed of, contact Waste Management at 800-423-9986 for curbside pickup.
