The nomination period for the November 8, 2022 General Municipal Election is now closed. All Candidate Statements are provided by District, as they will appear in the Voters Pamphlet.

District 1 - Seat Filled on August 24, 2022

On August 24, 2022, the Murrieta City Council appointed Jon Levell to serve as the City of Murrieta City Council District 1 representative for a full term of four years. The decision comes after receiving only one qualified nomination for District 1 during the nomination period, which was open from July 18 to August 12. A total of three individuals formally inquired about the nomination process, but at the close of the period, only Mr. Levell filed and qualified. By appointing the District 1 seat, the City has canceled its City Council election for District 1, saving Murrieta approximately $44,000. Mr. Levell will be sworn into his City Council position in December along with the seating of the other City Council Members based on the November election. The election for City Council Districts 2 and 5 will continue as scheduled on November 8, 2022.

Cindy Warren, Appointed Incumbent

As your District 5 Councilwoman, I am, and always will be, accessible and responsive to both residents and businesses alike.

I am dedicated to keeping our public safety my top priority by supporting training programs, procuring needed equipment, and ensuring that we have enough public safety personnel so Murrieta remains one of the safest cities in the nation.

My husband John served our country in Vietnam as a River Boat Commander. He was exposed to Agent Orange during this time, and ultimately lost his life because of his service. I am committed to continuing the involvement John and I had with programs and nonprofit organizations that support our active military and veterans.

As a successful small business owner for over 41 years, I know how to successfully maneuver through economic peaks and valleys. My goal is to be a part of the vision, success, and growth of this thriving community by pursuing quality development, maintaining fiscal sustainability with full transparency, and providing programs to repair and improve our infrastructure, while developing a realistic long-term plan to address our traffic issues, both locally and at the regional level.

I am proud to be endorsed by State Senator Melissa Melendez, Assembly Member Kelly Seyarto, Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin, Murrieta Mayor Jonathan Ingram, and Murrieta Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Lisa DeForest, to name a few.

Jimmie Jackson, Retired

I am honored to announce my candidacy for the City of Murrieta District 5 City Council. I have resided in Murrieta for over eighteen years. I am a champion for integrity, accountability, innovation and unity. I proudly served my country for six years in the U.S. Navy. I am a decorated Vietnam Era veteran. I also earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Degree with emphasis in Telecommunications Management,  and a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) Degree with emphasis in Management Information Systems.

Today, I am a retired business professional, civil servant, entrepreneur, and active community member with a distinguished career in business administration,   information technology,   telecommunications,  and leadership. I am currently serving my community as a member of the Riverside County Civil Grand Jury. I am excited about the opportunity to serve as a City Councilman for Murrieta District 5.

Being the father of two adult children has reinforced many of the virtues I learned while in service to my country and in my civilian career. Fatherhood has taught me patience and how to solve complex challenges using creativity and situational awareness while remaining conscientious of maintaining goodwill within  the community.

As a candidate, I also intend to build upon the following goals:

  1. I will work to support the citizens of Murrieta’s District 5 with improved housing, employment and local access to healthcare services.
  2. I will work with city planners to improve the flow of local traffic and reduce traffic “choke points” through technological advancements, strategic road design, city mapping, code enforcements, and increased freeway entrance and exit ramps.
  3. Plus I will work to increase the availability and affordability of single family housing in Murrieta District 5.

These are just some of the issues that need to be addressed and the list will evolve as time progresses.

I have dedicated my life to providing quality   service to all and  today I am eager to take the next step. Your votes and support are needed and greatly appreciated. I look forward to increasing the reciprocity of my  relationship with my home, neighbors, and community.
