Alta Murrieta Drive WIll Re-Open at 3 pm on Tuesday, March 12.

The sinkhole on Alta Murrieta Drive, just north of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, has been repaired and the road will be reopened today, March 12, at 3 pm. The City of Murrieta appreciates your patience while repairs were made and the roadway was made safe to travel.

The sinkhole on Alta Murrieta Drive, just north of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, was caused by the failure of a 72-inch storm water drain pipe which is located approximately 20 feet below the surface of the road. Work crews are in the process of completing the repair to the storm drain line and will next work to fill in the hole and make repairs to the road surface.

Repairs are expected to be completed by Friday, March 15, 2019, and is dependent on the amount of rain the area receives in the next week.

At approximately 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, City of Murrieta Public Works maintenance crews working to repair potholes and other damage from recent storms noticed an apparent pavement depression on Alta Murrieta Drive, north of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, to the east of the Murrieta Town Center shopping center. Public Works, working with the Murrieta Police Department, closed off Alta Murrieta Drive to all traffic in the vicinity of the pavement depression.

At approximately 3:30 pm, while Public Works crews were inspecting the pavement depression, the roadway collapsed, creating a large sinkhole in the middle of the street. Fortunately, there were no injuries to City staff or the public.

Currently, southbound traffic on Alta Murrieta Drive is being detoured east on Rockcrest Drive to Whitewood. Northbound traffic on Alta Murrieta Drive, coming from Murrieta Hot Springs Road, is the stopped at the middle driveway entrance to the shopping center and being turned back to Murrieta Hot Springs Road, or allowed to enter the shopping center parking lot.

Alta Murrieta Drive is expected to be closed until at least March 1, 2019, so that repairs to the roadway can be planned and completed.
