MURRIETA, CA – On March 17th, the Murrieta Public Library Heritage Room will celebrate its 10th anniversary, as the Murrieta Public Library officially reopened on that day ten years ago, with a new Heritage Room designed to preserve and maintain the City’s history.
The Heritage Room offers all-new, permanent, narrative exhibits that tell the story of Murrieta’s history and presents some rare over-one hundred year-old artifacts on loan. The Library itself is offering a new facet of Murrieta’s heritage: over one dozen oral histories will be offered and available to be checked out by the public, beginning Friday, March 17th, at the Adult Reference Desk. The oral histories are in USB format, ideal for your computer of smart TV, (If you have a USB port in your TV). The Library also invites its community members to “tell their story”: if you have grown up in Murrieta, experienced its transformation and would like to get your oral history recorded for prosperity, please contact Archivist and Adult Services Librarian Laura Davis at ldavis@murrietaCA.gov to make an appointment.
During the week of March 20 – 23, the Heritage Room will be open for tours and questions during the following hours: Monday – Wednesday, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Thursday, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. A commemorative, historic photograph copy from the E. Hale Curran Photograph Collection will be given to the first 50 participants who arrive during these hours, or who make an appointment to tour or view the collections during this special week.
This event is free and open to public. The Murrieta Public Library is located at 8 Town Square (Adams Avenue and Kalmia Street). For more information about the program call (951) 304-BOOK (2665) or visit the Library’s web page at www.murrietalibrary.info.
