To help stop identity theft and as a service to our residents, the City of Murrieta City Clerk Department is hosting a FREE Document On-Site Shredding Event. The event will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. or until the truck is filled to capacity. Residents may bring up to FIVE banker-sized boxes per trip, to the back parking lot of City Hall.
Items that may be included are paper documents such as legal, medical, financial, tax, bank, photos, and credit card statements (no need to remove staples or paper clips). Residents may also bring credit cards and CDs. No businesses please.

The Murrieta City Council recently unanimously approved a Purchase and Sale Agreement with CAR MAX to sell approximately 10 acres of City Housing Authority land immediately south of the Murrieta Walmart for the development of a CAR MAX Superstore. The site is located on the east side of Madison Avenue in the South Murrieta Business Corridor. The agreed upon sale price was $2.2 million which is consistent with the recent appraisal for the property.
CAR MAX has indicated that they plan to develop an approximately 40 acre project which will include a CAR MAX Superstore similar to the ones they have developed in Irvine and other Southern California cities, but will also include a reconditioning center. The Murrieta development would be considerably larger than the average CAR MAX facility. The CAR MAX representative has described the Murrieta facility as their Southern California 's "flagship" operation, as it will serve the entire Los Angeles-to-San Diego corridor. The store is modeled somewhat on a regional facility that CAR MAX previously developed in the Greater Washington-Baltimore region. The development of the CAR MAX regional facility here reflects Murrieta's central location midway between Metro Los Angeles and San Diego. The sale of the City land to CAR MAX is contingent on the purchase by CAR MAX of additional privately-owned properties in the immediate vicinity of the City-owned site. These negotiations are well underway.
CAR MAX will join the Marriott Residence Inn which is currently under construction on the west side of Madison Avenue and which will open in May 2015. That will be followed by the construction of a Courtyard by Marriott hotel on that site. Both hotels have been funded by overseas investors who have demonstrated their confidence in the growth of Murrieta’s economy.
Once fully in operation, these South Murrieta development projects will create new jobs and revenues for Murrieta.
