Economic Development


The City of Murrieta understands the importance of taking a project from design to construction as quickly as possible. To that end, the City has established procedures to fast-track projects through the entitlement process. Planning, Engineering and Building and Safety divisions are all under the Development Services umbrella to enhance communication and coordination. Your project is our priority.

Development has taken off with CarMax building a 40 acre site, which is their largest facility. They chose Murrieta due to its great, midway location between San Diego and Los Angeles as well as miles of prime freeway frontage. A new four-story Residence Inn by Marriott opened this past fall and a new Courtyard by Marriott and Hampton Inn are under construction.  With a focus on healthcare, the City of Murrieta is aggressively courting medical facilities in the North Murrieta Technology Corridor. Anchored by Loma Linda University Medical Center–Murrieta (40 acre hospital and medical office building campus) on one end, and a new Kaiser Permanente Murrieta Valley Medical Complex (38 acres of medical office which broke ground in May 2016) anchors the other end. Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego is developing a 100,000 sq. ft. pediatrics healthcare facility; HealthSouth is constructing a regional brain rehabilitation hospital; and Rancho Springs Medical Center-Murrieta recently completed their expansion.  

As for access, in addition to a new interchange being designed for I-215 and Keller Road, the Riverside County expansion of Clinton Keith Road which is under construction will open up a much needed east-west corridor. This opens up opportunities for new business and tourism as it provides a quick route to Southern California Wine Country.
