Contact :Sergeant Robert Anderson    (951) 461-6317

On February 4th, 2013, a Murrieta Police Department School Resource Officer received information of a threat on Twitter.  It was determined that a 17-year-old resident of Murrieta who attends Vista Murrieta High School had made the threat to kill one of his teachers.

By the time it was reported to police, the juvenile had gone home for the day.  The School Resource Officer felt the threat was credible.  At 1331 hours, the juvenile was located at his residence and admitted to making the Twitter threat.  The juvenile was arrested.  No weapons were located, and it was determined the student no longer had access to weapons.

All threats against school district officials, teachers, staff, students, buses or bus drivers or the school site itself are taken seriously and investigated by the Murrieta Police Department Juvenile Investigations Unit.  A zero tolerance policy is strictly followed with criminal violations of this type.

The juvenile in this case was booked into Southwest Juvenile Hall for 422 PC - Criminal Threats and the case was submitted to the Riverside District Attorney.

All questions regarding the investigation and/or media requests should be directed to PIO Lieutenant Tony Conrad at the Murrieta Police Department, (951) 461-6309.
