** Update ** Suspicious Death Investigation
On 10/31/2012 at 6:45 a.m., Murrieta Police Officers received a radio call of a fire at the Waterstone Apartments located at 24850 Hancock Avenue. Murrieta Officers and Murrieta Fire Department personnel arrived on scene at 6:49 a.m. Officers discovered apartment V-103 was engulfed with smoke billowing from an open window. Murrieta Fire Department personnel entered the apartment and extinguished the fire.
An unidentified person was located inside apartment V-103. That person was pronounced deceased by Fire Department personnel. The fire was ruled suspicious by Murrieta Police Investigators. An investigation began into the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death.
On 11/2/2012, the deceased was positively identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office as Shanae Christiana Wesley, age 23. Ms. Wesley’s son, age 3, was inside the apartment during the fire and was rescued from the fire by a neighbor. He was treated after the incident and has been released from a local hospital in good condition. His identity will not be released.
Also on 11/2/2012, Murrieta Police Department investigators arrested Marquise McGlown, age 22 of Hemet. McGlown was booked at the Riverside County Southwest Jail for a parole violation. McGlown is considered to be the primary suspect in the death of Ms. Wesley.
Murrieta Police investigators continue to investigate this case as a homicide. Results from the Coroner’s Office autopsy and presentation of this case to the Riverside County District Attorney is still pending. The Murrieta Police Department expects additional charges against McGlown to be filed in the near future.
