The City of Murrieta Announces Application Period for District 5 City Council Seat
On September 27, 2021, the City of Murrieta will begin accepting applications for an upcoming City Council vacancy in Murrieta’s fifth district. Mayor Scott Vinton recently submitted his formal resignation from his role on the Murrieta City Council and at the September 21, 2021 City Council meeting the Council voted to fill the vacancy through an appointment process.
Mayor Vinton’s resignation will become effective December 21, 2021, fulfilling his tenure as Mayor. His resignation will create a vacancy for the remainder of his City Council District 5 term, which ends in December 2022. Mayor Vinton was first elected to represent City Council District 5 in November 2018.
Murrieta City Manager Kim Summers expressed her appreciation for Mayor Vinton’s dedicated service to the residents of Murrieta. “Mayor Vinton has represented Murrieta during a challenging period and he has done so with compassion and care for this community. On behalf of the City of Murrieta team, we thank him for his service and wish him the best with his upcoming move,” shared Summers.
Pursuant to California Government Code § 36512, within 60 days from the commencement of the vacancy, the City Council must fill the vacancy either by appointment or by calling a special election. The City calls for interested District 5 residents to submit an application for the vacancy.
